Oliver Jones:
At 81 years young, the masterful Canadian pianist Oliver Jones remains “one of the most consistently inventive and technically awesome mainstream jazz pianists on the planet” (All About Jazz).
A JUNO and Governor General’s Award-winning Officer of the Order of Canada, Jones is as decorated as he is beloved. A strong musical kinship with lifelong friend Oscar Peterson can be heard in his phenomenal swing and bebop shredding, while his Bach and Chopin influences find expression in the arching emotion of his restrained, tender ballads. Oliver Jones retires from touring in the fall of 2016 so don’t miss his top shelf trio— Eric Lagacé bass, and Jim Doxas drums.
Triology with Andrew Millar:
Triology is a Jazz Trio featuring three of Canada’s most sought after jazz musicians. Inspired by the great early jazz trios of Nat King Cole and Oscar Peterson, their first CD features wonderful arrangements of classic standards, as well as originals by the trio members. More recently they have excelled at ‘close your eyes’ music where the trio spontaneously improvises new arrangements while showcasing a telepathic and playful sense of interplay. Jodi Proznick bass, Miles Black piano, Bill Coon guitar.
